This kid was in front of us in line for “The Dark Knight” at midnight last Thursday. I made Omar take his picture. I asked the kid about the Joker cards shoved in his cap, and he told me that earlier in the day, he’d been dealing out cards for poker, and the first two cards off the deck were Jokers! It was a sign, he said.
Yes, imagine that. A deck of cards, just out of the pack, with Jokers at the top! Clearly, since those cards didn’t come from the factory pre-shuffled, he had no choice but to go see Batman at the earliest possible moment.
Other things this kid probably considered to be omens:
- The quarter he got back as change after buying popcorn - just like Two-Face carries!
- Heath bars for sale at the concession stand.
- Seeing a clip of Kevin Camia’s appearance on Live at Gotham.
- It was night, and also dark.
